Sep. 24th, 2010 07:14 pmSPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE HUNGER GAMES SERIES BELOW. NO, I AM NOT CUTTING IT. ...I think I only have one friend on my FL who cares, and she's already read them all...OH! Some Harry Potter spoilers as well.
I hate epilogues. I hate the fact that everyone needs kids to be happily ever after. I was more or less ambivalent toward the epilogue of Harry Potter... I didn't like the fact that everyone had kids and everything was lovely...but it wasn't a big deal.
But then last night I finished Mockingjay...and it really disappointed me. I don't care that Katniss ended up with Peeta (Even though Gale is a hundred times cooler)...but I did care that she had to go and have kids. I understand that part of it is the fact that now it's SAFE to have them again, but still... Kids =/= happiness. Maybe this is the childfree bitch in me saying all this, but really! Is it completely necessary to tack that on? What was wrong with the ending of the book proper, with Katniss picking Peeta, and letting the reader imagine from there?
I want a heroine that doesn't have kids. Just once in a while.. is that really so much to ask?
