Aug. 8th, 2012 10:39 amBullet list, because I can't be bothered.
1: Dave, my stepdad, is going back into the hospital today. This is after being in ours for a few days and then hurriedly transported to St. Louis for another few days, because he was doing so poorly, last month. I am not pleased.
2: After the stress of last month, Luke and I decided to go to a Cardinals game today. That should be fun, and help get our minds off everything. ...this is, of course, after stopping by to check on Dave before we head to St. Louis.
3: Month and a half until the Nightwish concert! For my birthday present, Luke bought the VIP tickets, so we're going to get to meet everyone! Marco, Tuomas, Anette... I'm already dreaming about it.
4: As far as gaming goes, still playing SWTOR, don't want to hear "lol it sucks and going F2P." I'm still keeping my sub because I genuinely enjoy it. However, I am trying out Rift (So far not too impressed, but we'll see what happens when I get past the first little area).
5. I still have the cutest cats in the world. Hands down.

List. Of. Doom.

Still playing TOR. Still not playing SL. Moving. Working WAY too much. Might update for real later.
It is time, I believe
Jan. 31st, 2012 11:57 pmAfter over ten years, I believe that it is time to pretty much retire my livejournal account. Sure, I'll still check my communities and such, but no more posting there. It's just now what it was even five years ago. I mean, I was part of LJ before ONTD, which might be considered the beginning of the end. /hipster.
Of course, this means I might have to do something crazy, like actually write once in a while. Weird thought, yeah?
Yeah.
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit.

Jan. 7th, 2012 09:44 pmHey! An entry I can't make on facebook, so I'll be passive-aggressive here!
Hey. You. Cousin.
Liking Twilight does NOT make you a nerd. In fact, it almost makes you the exact opposite. There ARE nerds who like Twilight, but YOU, cousin, ARE FAR FROM A NERD.
The previous message is brought to you by Katy not wanting to go to work tomorrow and taking out her anger on the internet.

Jan. 5th, 2012 06:11 pmThe Salem Witch Trial of 2012
So, the library in my town is being sued.
And I'm so angry, I'm seeing red.
For most of my childhood, the library in my town was a safe place. I spent nearly all of my summers there, reading in the cool shelves, away from my house, that in many ways, though full of love, was still somewhat toxic. I not only read every single Nancy Drew book there, but I also read many of the classics-- Jules Verne, Mark Twain, and also spent more hours than I can possibly count reading from The Red Fairy Book and Grimm's Fairy Tales.
In many ways, the Salem Public Library shaped who I am today. My love of reading was encouraged (even though I had a problem with getting books back on time... we won't talk about some of my fines, though they were ALWAYS paid) and I discovered worlds that I probably wouldn't have, had I been stuck at home.
When I moved back to Salem after my father passed away, the librarians still remembered who I was. When I moved back to Salem again, after college, the librarians still remembered me.
So seeing what is happening feels like a punch to the gut. Though there's no rational reason for it, I feel betrayed.
Researching other religions is NOT criminal activity. Yes, you could make the argument that stupid teenagers might look it up and use it as an excuse to go do stupid teenage stuff. I get that. And someone on my facebook friends list is calling this "the government taking away the rights of the town to make their own decisions." But you know what?
This is WRONG. We live in a nation where we have certain liberties. Included are freedom of speech and freedom of religion. When are these liberties removed? When they infringe upon someone else's speech and religion. Someone looking up Native American Spirituality is NOT infringing on someone else's right to their own speech or their own religion. Looking up paganism is NOT infringing on someone else's right to their own speech or their own religion.
Tomorrow morning I am going to cancel my library card. There's nothing I can do about supporting it via my tax dollars, but at least I can let them know they have lost my patronage.

T-19 days..
Oct. 12th, 2011 10:03 pmGonna try to do NaNoWriMo again this year... a few other people from my town are going to do it, so I will have some support. I think I can really do it this year, as I can write on the go with my laptop now... that was the big thing with previous years, I was stuck on my home PC with no portability.
My novel is called The Greylands...and here is the synopsis. ...Yeah, yeah. Fantasy as usual.
The son of a god and a demon has awoken with a plan to kill the gods and take the nations of the world as his own. In Akransolo, five adventurers travel to the Barvincian continent to ally themselves with the Nightwalkers and save not only their gods and religion, but also their entire way of life.
I have the world built, just have to do some mapmaking and character fleshing-out, and I'll be ready to go this November 1st. ...Don't worry, I won't post every day with my word count, but I will likely do a weekly one.

A real entry? Le gasp!
Sep. 13th, 2011 01:25 amSo I suppose I should write something that's meaningful... or at least more than a few words. Perhaps I'm too used to facebook and being brief that I've forgotten how to write more long-winded updates on my life.
Either that or I'm just lazy. I'm going to go with the lazy excuse.
Also, forgive any typos, I'm on my new (old) laptop. My sister got a new one and handed this one down to me. It's useful for writing and random web browsing, which is all I need it for, since my PC is a gaming rig. ...That is going to have to be replaced in February when I get my tax return, I think. Either the RAM is going bad, or the graphics card is, because every so often, especially when I'm running intensive stuff, my screen will turn into horizontal lines and completely freeze up. Google tells me it's likely RAM...but I'd like a new computer anyway. Boris is hitting three years old soon... though that's not as bad as this laptop, which is five.
SO I've been married for four months now, and I really can't believe how happy I am. I never thought I could be this happy. It's like, I can't evenn describe it, but knowing that I'm with a person like Luke is just astonishing. Back in high school and college I had kinda thought that I would never find someone who compliments me so well... And it only took a random computer game to find the love of my life.
We have no plans on having kids, at least not for a while. Years, if at all. Right now he's more open to the kid idea than I am, but only in random spurts. He comes to his senses fairly quickly. We have enough going on with work and three cats that a kid just isn't something we can handle at the moment.
Oh, work...
My doctor wants me to do some physical therapy before I start applying to ambulance districts, as my shoulder has been acting up a LOT lately. He's worried that I'll tear something with all of the lifting before I'm ready... I probably should have gotten physical therapy soon after the car accident, but I was stubborn and didn't think I needed it. Oops.
Right now though, I'm happy that both Luke and I have stable jobs. I'm still doing registration and he's a med tech at the local treatment center. It pays the bills and gets us some extra things... like video games. For my birthday, I got FF9 for the PSP. It makes me happy.
Speaking of games, I'm playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution and it's awesome. The main character is sex appeal in pixel form... saying that makes me feel like I'm in high school again, but it's true. That is a very, very, very beautiful game.
RP-wise, still playing in JC and bitching about it every day. I'd love to find another Star Wars game like SWFL or even SWTA/SWGB. Forums sound fun right now. Maybe a generic fantasy game would be fun too. I want to play a busty barwench who secretly wants to be a knight. Or something super silly like that.
.. I also have a cold. And only one nostril is plugged up. And a half an hour to go before I can take more cold medicine. Yuck.

Jun. 26th, 2011 06:29 amSo yesterday I took my National Registry EMT practical exam.
Tomorrow I find out how I did.
I was really confident walking out of the testing site, but now I'm starting to second guess myself. On one thing only, really.
Did I remember to give the bleeding control/shock management patient high flow oxygen?
I don't remember.
But I don't remember not giving it to them either.
We'll see tomorrow.
Now....to work for 12 hours!
